Brisbane's Inner South

Just like the Inner North, which we covered last month, the Inner South suburbs of Brisbane are proving to be well in front when it comes to new developments. With many massive development and infrastructure projects on the cards for the inner south and many already in the construction phase, there is no slowing down for this part of the city.

There are many infrastructure projects that will lead to further development or at least open new opportunities in retail, residential and commercial aspects for the Inner South.

With the Cross River Rail in full motion, new bridges laying the foundation, with more bridge proposal applications pending, getting around is a priority. This, in turn, opens up additional development opportunities that may not have previously been considered. The inner south has much to offer when it comes to mixed development sites, and with a number of student accommodation building under construction, and a new shopping centre and school on the cards, the future looks busy.

A new school, the Inner-City South State Secondary College will bring a contemporary education zone to the inner south, set for a 2021 opening in Dutton Park to its first year seven students. The Dutton Park location will sustain the inner south Brisbane education network, and the Queensland Government has been exploring several sites for the school, with the Dutton Park Eco-sciences Precinct, near Boggo Road leading the race as the preferred location. The site features direct connection with The University of Queensland via the Eleanor Schonell Bridge.

With most inner-city schools at capacity, the new school will cater for the explosion in students moving into West End and surrounding areas. It sets up Dutton Park and its immediate surrounding suburbs to grow indefinitely on many levels, for many years to come.

Other significant projects on the move in the Inner South include The Boulevard Buranda, the Parmalat site sale, Metro Portal, The Gabba Sports Complex renovation, and there has been a recent Yeronga Priority Development Area announcement.
