While the pandemic has raged on, there have been many new development applications lodged by developers, as well as some new projects that have commenced.
An application was lodged recently for the development a new $450 million mixed-use precinct called ‘Toowong Town Centre’ on the corner of High Street and Sherwood Road. The 9,000sqm site would activate the centre each day from early AM until quite late at night with mix of proposed uses from restaurants, bars, and cafes, to retail, offices, and residential, as well as a gym, cinema, and medical centre. With a water feature that can be converted into a stage area, this open-air plaza will likely be used for outdoor dining as well as a wide variety of special community events, from small concerts to food festivals.
Since the Brisbane floods in 2011, the former inner-city industrial area in riverside Brisbane suburb of Newstead has been transformed into a residential zone with public open space. Now there has been a development application lodged by Mirvac for a new 25-storey residential building in Newstead at 57 Skyring Terrace. Located within their Waterfront Newstead community, this will be the fourth in their series in the area. They plan to offer and apartments, retail space. and lifestyle amenities, while also significantly expanding the parkland along the area’s waterfront.
And developers have lodged an application for construction of Stage 4 of Summerlin Estate on a 3.16ha in Brisbane‘s north. Located next to Nudgee station in Banyo’s former light industrial precinct, this $100 million master-planned community a mix of 206 townhouses and apartments will eventually house around 500 residents when completed sometime around 2025. Coupled with quality design and finishes, this unique residential project will see that residents have everything at their doorstep, offering a wide variety of options not seen before in that area.
